This Week at Morso
We hadn't hit 80º in 8 months until this week. It has certainly delayed the grilling and BBQ season a bit. To start the season off right we will be featuring at this week's tasting event, various regional house made BBQ sauces styles paired with wine. Sure we would always do beer and often do, but this time we are going to push the envelope.
Some things to consider first before the beverage selection is are you grilling or barbecuing? Generally speaking, grilling is cooking over hot direct flame and barbecuing is low and slow over indirect heat typically with smoke. Typically, when I am grilling I pair wines the same as if I was cooking indoors. For barbecuing there are different components such as smoke, sugar and vinegar...flavors that can be particularly difficult with wine. Also folks can be passionate about the type of sauces they use, whether it is mustard based, ketchup based, spice based, smokey, sweet. There seem to be more sauces than styles of barbecue.
So the only real rule for pairing is to drink what you prefer with whatever meal you are having, it's always the right thing to do. We hope to challenge you to look at some other beverage alternatives at our tasting this Friday May 26 from 5-7pm.
We will be pairing wines with:
Alabama White BBQ Sauce
Carolina Gold BBQ sauce
Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce
Southwestern BBQ Sauce
Hawaiian BBQ Sauce
We will be having some bubbles, Chablis, Aglianico from Italy and others, so come down and enjoy the fun.
It's Rose time! Rose wines are perfect for the summer and we are beginning it with a bang with our annual Drink the Pink Rose Tasting on June 2, 2017 from 5-7pm. We have roses made in the US and throughout the world with different grapes like pinot noir, syrah, grenache, mourvedre, cinsault and more. We prefer our rose dry and crisp rather than sweet. This style of wine makes them a perfect accompaniment to food. Come and try these amazing wines.
There is a $5 fee/person for each of these tasting events that is applied to the purchase of these wines. Any wines purchased from the tasting may be served without a corkage fee on the night of the tasting.
