This Week at Morso
This year's Nouveau Beaujolais is released this Thursday. The release, at one past midnight on the third Thursday of each November all over the world, is a cause for celebration. Just weeks before this wine was a cluster of grapes in a grower's vineyard. But by an expeditious harvest, a rapid fermentation, and a speedy bottling, all is ready at the midnight hour. We will be serving our Beaujolais Nouveau starting at 4 pm on Thursday November 15, 2018. Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé! "The New Beaujolais has arrived!"
It’s near Thanksgiving and time to bring out the fantastic Tete de Moine cheese. Made from fresh, part-skim cow’s milk, this tangy, semi-hard cheese ages on small spruce planks. We love it because it means not only do we have an amazing unique cheese, we also can pull out a special cheese tool, the girolle. Yes, even cheese lovers have gear. Come by and enjoy this cheese as we launch it on Thursday with our Nouveau Beaujolais celebration.
We love bubbles, especially Champagne, and we are so fortunate to have available Champagne Delamotte as a special for the holidays. Beginning this week on Thursday, we are offering the spectacular Delamotte Champagne for $15/glass! Please stop in and enjoy. In 1760, Champagne Delamotte was one of only five Champagne houses in the region. Located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger it is the sister house of Champagne Salon, with which it shares the same viticultural, winemaking and management team. A house like no other with all its vineyards sourced from the Grands Crus of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize and Cramant for chardonnay, Delamotte is one of the very few négociants to cultivate such a passion for the expression of this unique ward of Champagne.
Delamotte Brut is a blend of approximately 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier, which combine to give a wine of subtle power, appealing freshness, soft curves and a precise, fresh fruit finish: this is a dry and extremely attractive champagne, balanced and elegant. Aged on the lees for 30 to 36 months, Delamotte Brut receives a light dosage of 7g/l. This champagne has wonderful aromas of white flesh fruit, pear and ginger overlie the elegant touch of minerality that carries the wine on the palate.
We are often asked at this time of year to recommend wines for Thanksgiving. The thing about a feast like Thanksgiving is there are many flavors on the table at any one time, so trying to identify one wine can be a daunting task. We have asked our friend Chris Smeaton to help this Friday November 16, 2018 from 5-7pm with some selections that will go well with your feast.
There is a $5 fee/person for this event that is applied to the purchase of these wines. Any wines purchased from the event may be served without a corkage fee on the night of the event.
Our new art exhibition begins today, Two of a Kind:An Exhibition by Anne Moore Knapp and Robert Knapp. The show runs from November 13 to December 9, 2018, with a Meet the Artists Reception on Tuesday November 20, 2018 from 6-8pm.
Robert and Anne Knapp (married 45 years) share a studio in their home in Gig Harbor. Both are classically trained artists, but each has their own style and temperament. Robert prefers oils and is more detailed in his work. He is happiest painting for his own satisfaction in a more traditional style. Anne’s favorite medium is pastels (she’s has Signature status with NW Pastel Society) and paints in a more contemporary style. She’s pushing boundaries with her textural underlayments and enjoys the competition of juried shows (she’s been included in several regional and International shows). They each enjoy painting in the outdoors to create “en plein air” works that sometimes serve as launching points for studio works. Both artists belong to Peninsula Art League, and volunteer to support the arts in our community.
Our next wine dinner is with Sbragia Family Vineyards. The Sbragia family history runs deep in the Dry Creek Valley, beginning in 1904 when Ed's grandfather came to the Valley from Tuscany. Sbragia Family Vineyards was founded in 2001 by Ed Sbragia. Ed Sbragia is a third-generation Dry Creek Valley vintner; he's well-known for his position as Winemaster at Beringer Vineyards in Napa, where he worked for 32 years. Ed Sbragia is the only winemaker in the world to be honored with the distinction of having received the Wine Spectator "#1 Wine of the Year" award for both a red and a white wine-a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Chardonnay, respectively. Today, Ed is joined by his son, Adam Sbragia, as winemaker. We have a five-course dinner planned beginning at 6:30pm on November 29, 2018 with Andrew McPherson from Sbragia Family Vineyards leading our program. Call 253-530-3463 for tickets.
